family, friends

Touché and iPad, Cycling '74's Max, and Symbolic Sound's Kyma

family, friends explores the recalibration of social behavior through these last two years of pandemic-induced isolation. The first section of the piece conveys the building anxieties from sudden social isolation. The second section interrupts the first with a visual representation of a video call. The repeated performed rejection of this social input is representative of the rejection of the video screen, in this case the iPad, as the new normal of social, remote communication. However, it is only with the acceptance of this social medium that the piece can move forward in resolution through consonant, light-hearted dialogue.
